Ecologische Pluktuin “De Peel” is a tranquil ecological self-picking garden nestled in Griendtsveen, located between water and forests. The garden was created from a passion for nature, designed to be a sanctuary for numerous insects and animals, featuring wadi’s (natural water retention areas) and consciously planted diverse flora. Visitors to the garden can enjoy picking a wide variety of produce: Flowers: The garden boasts over 15,000 spring bulbs, including various types of tulips, daffodils, and large purple alliums, which can be picked with the bulb. Throughout the season, there are hundreds of dahlia varieties, annuals, perennials, and autumn anemones, contributing to over 5000 different flower species available for creating your own bouquets. Eucalyptus and various grasses are also available, especially for autumn arrangements. Fruits: When there is a sufficient harvest, guests can pick fresh fruits such as Conference pears, apples, plums, and various edible berry bushes directly from the trees and shrubs. Seasonal Items: On request, particularly around the Christmas period, rosehips, fir branches, and eucalyptus are available. Blossom branches may also be offered in spring. Beyond self-picking, the garden provides additional amenities and activities. It offers a terrace for customers, which will expand to a small Mediterranean-style indoor and outdoor terrace with a pond from 2026. The garden hosts Yin and Chair Yoga workshops outdoors, starting in 2025, and also offers creative workshops, unique photography sessions, and guided tours on ecological gardening and biodiversity. Gift cards are available, and bouquets can be pre-ordered for pick-up. A flower cart with plant cuttings is open during garden hours.

Mooi Weerdinge is a self-picking farm and food forest located on the outskirts of Weerdinge and Emmen. It operates on natural principles, cultivating flavourful vegetables and fruits without artificial fertilizers or pesticides, and using organic seeds and planting material to promote a healthy soil and environment. Visitors can participate in several ways: Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Model: Harvest Freely (Oogst Vrij): Members can pick their weekly vegetables from Wednesday to Sunday, from sunrise to sunset, choosing what and how much they need. This option supports local biodiversity. Harvest Together (Oogst Samen): Participants gather to pick 6-7 different vegetables per week, often with others on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays. This provides a varied selection, including popular and forgotten vegetables. The picking season for CSA members typically runs from May 1st to mid-November. Members receive a weekly email detailing what’s ready to harvest, along with unique recipes. Pick a Day (Pluk een Dag): For casual visitors, the farm offers specific “pick a day” sessions every Wednesday in July and August (except August 20th), from 10:00 to 16:00. No prior registration is required for these sessions. Vegetable Stall: A farm stand is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 16:00. Visitors can participate in several ways: Harvest Participants: By becoming an annual subscriber, individuals can weekly pick their own seasonal vegetables, herbs, and small fruits from April to October. This typically provides enough produce for a week’s meals for the registered household members. Flower Picking: The flower garden is open to everyone without a subscription. From June onwards, visitors can freely pick flowers to create their own bouquets, paying based on the bouquet’s size. Stamp cards and gift cards are also available. Kasteeltuin Nijevelt allows self-picking of flowers on Friday and Saturday mornings during the summer, and visitors can ask staff about gathering their own seasonal vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Stadstuin Food for Good offers self-picking flowers from mid-June to the end of October, and harvesting of vegetables, fruit, and herbs can be arranged upon request. Stadstuin Kanaalweg provides organic flowers and certain herbs for self-picking at a small cost when they are in season. At Stadstuin Plutodreef, self-harvesting of vegetables and herbs is occasionally possible, requiring prior inquiry with staff. Visitors have the opportunity to pick their own fresh produce and flowers directly from the gardens.
