Noord-Holland farms

Noord-Holland has almost forty pick-your-own farms on our list. Lots of flowers, as you would expect, but also apples, pears, strawberries and a few self-harvest gardens around Haarlem. They are quite spread out, from Bergen to Loosdrecht.

A selection of u-pick farms in Noord-Holland

Pluktuin Bloemfontein Bergen is open every day from 10:00 to 16:00, self-service. Tulips from late March to early May, over 100 varieties, and you pull them out of the ground bulb and all. €4 for 10 stems, €10 for 25, €15 for 40. The peonies flower in early May, for only about two weeks (€1.50 a stem). After that lupins, alliums and irises, and from July dahlias, gladioli and sunflowers at €0.75 a stem. For those you need to bring your own scissors. Free parking, dogs allowed.

Marja’s Bloemenpluktuin in Spierdijk has a short season: mid-June to August. Flowers, edible flowers, herbs for tea and some soft fruit. There is a stall with vegetables, their own honey and tea. Tours by appointment, for up to 10 people. We haven’t found fixed opening hours.

Buurtboerderij Nieuweweg in Haarlem-Oost is a self-harvest garden for subscribers, from April through November. Courgettes, peppers, tomatoes, garlic, cabbage, and you can collect eggs. As far as we know you can’t harvest here without a subscription.

De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren in Cruquius sits in the middle of a new housing estate, since 2018, on 2.5 hectares. The vegetables are for participants (roughly €10 per person per week, from mid-May to Christmas). The flower garden is open to ordinary visitors from July to the end of September. There are pigs and chickens.

Natuurboerderij KipEigen in Loosdrecht is listed with us under apples, but according to the farm the orchard also has pears, cherries, blackberries, raspberries and currants. In fruit season the orchard is open on Friday afternoon, from 12:00. Fridays only. The rest of the farm runs on members with vegetable boxes and egg shares. Loosdrecht is right down in the south-east corner, closer to Utrecht than to Alkmaar.

On paying: at flower gardens it is usually per stem or per bouquet, at self-harvest gardens per season. For the self-service gardens bring cash, or make sure your phone can scan a QR code.

Buurtboerderij Nieuweweg

Available produce includes both common vegetables like courgette, paprika, tomato, onion, garlic, cucumber, lettuce, cabbages, and pumpkins, as well as lesser-known or “forgotten” vegetables such as kohlrabi, chard, rapeseed, and winter purslane. In addition to vegetables, the farm also offers an egg subscription where members can adopt a chicken and collect fresh eggs. All produce is grown seasonally and without the use of chemical pesticides.

De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren

De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren is a biological urban farm and self-picking garden located in the new residential area of Wickevoort in Cruquius. The farm operates as a form of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), with a mission to reconnect people with each other and with their food. Spanning over 2.5 hectares, the farm grows a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers, and also keeps pigs, chickens, and sheep. Members of the self-picking garden can harvest from 50 to 60 different types of vegetables each season, with fresh herbs always available. The main harvest season runs from mid-May until Christmas, with a limited winter harvest available in January and February. Members can harvest daily from sunrise to sunset. Additionally, a flower-picking garden is open from July through the end of September, offering a changing selection of field flowers. For those who prefer a ready-to-go option, a weekly vegetable crate with seasonal produce can be picked up.

Natuurboerderij KipEigen

Natuurboerderij KipEigen is a regenerative farm and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative located in Loosdrecht, Netherlands. The farm focuses on producing food in a way that actively restores the soil, biodiversity, and the local ecosystem, operating on the principle that farming should leave the land healthier than it was found. Self-picking is available for fruit during the growing season. Apples, pears, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, and currants can be picked from the farm’s orchard, which is open every other Friday from 12:00 PM starting in the summer season. The garden is closed during the winter months until spring begins, though tours may still be booked. Payment can be made in cash, via QR code, or through a Tikkie payment link. A self-service bicycle repair station is also available on site for visitors who arrive by bike.

Pluktuin Bloemfontein Bergen

Pluktuin Bloemfontein Bergen is a pick-your-own flower garden located at Groeneweg 8a in Bergen, North Holland. Guests are invited to wander the fields and cut their own bouquets directly from the source. The garden offers a variety of blooms depending on the season. Tulips are available from late March through early May; these are pulled from the ground with the bulb and do not require scissors. Peonies bloom for a short period in early May. Summer flowers, including lupines, alliums, and irises, are in season from mid-May through July. Dahlias, gladiolus, and sunflowers are ready for picking from July through September. Visitors bringing their own secateurs for summer flowers and dahlias is recommended. The garden is open daily from 09:00 to 21:00. Parking is available and free on site. No entrance fee is charged; payment is made via QR code for tulips or cash and debit card for other flowers. Check social media for the most up-to-date opening times and bloom status.

Plukweide - Bloemen Pluktuin

Plukweide is a flower field located on the edge of Haarlem, along the Spaarne river in the Schalkwijk district. The flowers are grown using natural methods, and visitors are welcome to come and pick their own bouquets. The field is situated within a public community garden that is open for everyone to enjoy at their own pace. Visitors can self-pick their own bouquet of flowers from June through October. The field is accessible for picking every day from sunrise to sunset during this season. Options include a single plukboeket (picking bouquet) for €10, a strippenkaart (punch card) for €45 which allows for five visits, or a plukdeelnemer (picking membership) for €150 for the season. The farm practices sustainable flower cultivation, using compost instead of chemical fertilizers and avoiding chemical pesticides to support local insect life. Hand tools and local products are used to minimize fossil fuel use.

Pluktuinderij Aardbei en zo

The orchard grows over 20 different types of fruit, including numerous apple and pear varieties, various berries (black, red, white, and rosé currants, blueberries, gooseberries, jostaberries, blackberries, raspberries, Japanese wineberries, loganberries, tayberries, and honeyberries), grapes, cherries, plums, mirabelles, peaches, nectarines, and nuts. In addition to fruit, guests can pick mushrooms (oyster and shiitake) year-round from the on-site cave, and chicory (witloof) is available for harvest from roughly November to May. The farm is also home to a variety of animals, including laying hens, Hereford cattle, and Kune Kune pigs. Children can explore the farm freely, with no fixed playground but opportunities for adventure among the trees and animals. The farm shop and café are open the same hours as the orchard, offering organic and biodynamic groceries, meals, and drinks. For adults and groups, guided tours are available upon request. The farm is a registered wedding venue and offers spaces for private parties and business meetings. Events such as live music, treasure hunts, and festivals are also held periodically.

During this period, the shop and grounds are open daily from 9:00 to 18:00.

Due to weather and natural growing cycles, specific daily availability can change, so checking for updates before visiting is recommended. No reservations are needed for picking.

The pick-up times for members are on Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00, and from Wednesday to Friday from 15:30 to 20:00. In addition to vegetables, the farm features a flower picking garden. The flower picking season typically begins in May or June and runs until September or October.

Moestuin Leyduin

Moestuin Leyduin is a historical kitchen garden of one hectare located on the Buitenplaats Leyduin estate, on the border of Heemstede and Vogelenzang. It operates as a self-harvest garden using a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, where members purchase a share of the harvest at the beginning of the season. The garden is open to the public, but the primary activity—self-picking of produce—is reserved for shareholding participants. The farm offers a self-picking experience where visitors can harvest their own fruit. The self-picking season runs from approximately mid-May through the end of the open season. The farm and its facilities are open from 1 April to 1 November, Monday through Saturday, from 10:00 to 16:00. The farm is closed on Sundays. It is wheelchair accessible, including the entrance, parking, and toilets, and has gender-neutral restrooms. Payment can be made by debit card, credit card, and contactless mobile payment. The farm is suitable for children. In addition to self-picking, the site offers a farm shop with homemade jams, syrups, and sauces, a terrace serving homemade treats, an audio tour, a gnome trail for children aged 1 to 10, and various other on-site activities.

During this period, individuals who have adopted a square meter of the field are also welcome to pick a bouquet of flowers. The adoption program allows supporters to sponsor a square meter of the meadow, with certificates available as gifts. In addition to the field, the initiative sells seed packets of native Texel flower mixes for home gardens. The location operates year-round, with the main bloom occurring in the warmer months and field days organized periodically throughout the season.
