Overijssel has forty pick-your-own farms on our list, more than we expected ourselves. Lots of flowers (dahlias, tulips, sunflowers), and also strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. The farms below are a fair way apart: from Kamperveen near Kampen to Bruinehaar on the edge of Twente.

Five pick-your-own farms in Overijssel up close

One farm in this list is closed at the time of writing, and for another we know little. We say so where it applies.

Pluktuin de Melkweg in Oud-Bergentheim is on the Timmermans family’s yard, next to a barn for young cattle and a farm daycare. Unstaffed. Scissors and rubber bands are in the green garden shed, and you pay by Tikkie or in cash. About forty kinds of flowers. We don’t have a start date for the season; the garden closes in winter.

Het Plukparadijs in De Krim is a one-hectare self-harvest garden with vegetables, soft fruit and flowers. You can come here without a subscription: Wednesday from 10:00 to 16:30 and Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30. Subscribers get longer hours. For flowers there is a multi-visit card. Open May through November.

Janmaat Plantenteelt in Bruinehaar is really an arable farm (sugar beet, grain, horseradish) with a picking garden on the side. Tulips in April, dahlias from mid-August through October, pumpkins from mid-September to the end of October. So from May to mid-August there is nothing to pick. The peonies are for sale only, not for picking. Free parking, a toilet, card payment.

de Wildeling in Lettele is, according to our latest information, closed to visitors because of personal circumstances. Normally you can pick flowers there from May through October. Collecting bouquets is still possible on Friday and Saturday. We don’t know when the garden will reopen.

Pluktuin FlowerCurl in Kamperveen: self-service, usually from July through October or November. We don’t know exactly which flowers they grow. They also run workshops and sell bouquets from a flower cabinet.

Flora Marita

Flora Marita is a seasonal pick-your-own flower garden located in Hasselt, Netherlands. The garden focuses on providing fresh, locally grown blooms that are cultivated without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Visitors can pick their own flowers to create a custom bouquet directly from the field. In addition to the pick-your-own experience, the farm offers handcrafted wooden seed storage boxes and a starter seed package containing seeds harvested from the garden. During the picking season, which runs from July through September, the garden is open on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings from 09:30 to 13:00, and is closed on all other days. The farm accepts payment via QR code, cash, or Tikkie. In addition to picking flowers, visitors can enjoy coffee or tea with a homemade slice of cake. Group visits are welcome with prior reservation, and the maximum group size is 15 people. The garden is family-friendly and children are allowed to accompany adults.

Pluktuin de Melkweg

Pluktuin de Melkweg is a self-picking flower garden located in Oud-Bergentheim, on the farm of the Timmermans family. The garden is part of a larger farmyard that also includes a young cattle barn, an agricultural daycare center, and an art studio. The name “Melkweg” (Milky Way) is a nod to the dairy cows that left the farm in 2020. The garden was first planted in spring 2021 on a piece of fallow land and has since expanded, including the addition of a greenhouse in 2023.

Janmaat Plantenteelt is a family-run arable farm and pick-your-own garden located in Bruinehaar, Overijssel. The farm grows a diverse range of crops, including sugar beets, grain, potatoes, maize, angelica, horseradish, and field beans, alongside a vibrant selection of flowers and pumpkins. Sustainability and craftsmanship are central to the operation, which has been active on the same land for three generations. The farm offers several self-picking opportunities throughout the season. A tulip picking garden is available for a short period of approximately two to three weeks in April. A dahlia picking garden, featuring a wide variety of colors and sizes, is open from mid-August through October. Additionally, a pumpkin picking garden allows visitors to harvest their own pumpkins from mid-September through the end of October. Pre-cut bouquets of peonies and aliums are available for purchase at the farm stand from mid-May to early June, but these cannot be self-picked.

De Wildeling is a small-scale flower farm and creative studio located at Bathmenseweg 43 in Lettele. The farm is woman-led and focuses on growing local, seasonal flowers in a nature-friendly way. It is a place designed to inspire a slower pace and a deeper connection with nature through flowers, offering experiences such as hand-tied bouquets, DIY flower bundles, wreaths, and self-picking moments. For those visiting the farm, a self-picking garden is available. Guests are invited to wander among the flowers and compose their own bouquet based on intuition. The self-picking season runs from May through October. A monthly membership called “Wilde Fluistering” allows members to choose a hand-tied bouquet, a DIY bundle, or a self-picking experience each month. An exclusive self-picking membership called “Wilde Verwondering” offers ten visits during the season with access during exclusive hours and a 10% discount on other products. Please note that as of recently, both the picking garden and the studio are temporarily closed due to illness, and no memberships are currently being offered.

Het Plukparadijs

Het Plukparadijs is a small-scale, community-supported market garden (CSA) located at Hoofdweg 95 in De Krim, in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Founded in 2022 by Albertine, a graduate of the Warmonderhof biodynamic farming college, the garden is still growing and developing year by year, with the long-term goal of cultivating a full hectare of productive land. The garden operates according to the principles of biological and regenerative agriculture — using organic seeds and plant material, avoiding synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, and nurturing the soil through mulching and green manures.

The garden is fully maintained using organic methods and grows a wide variety of perennial and annual flowers in open soil. Visitors can cut their own bouquet directly from the fields. The picking season runs from the end of May or the beginning of June (depending on the weather) until around mid-October. The garden is open for picking on Fridays from 14:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00. The business is operational and is run by a female entrepreneur. It offers payment by debit and credit cards, has toilet facilities, and free street parking as well as a free parking lot.

Kwekerij De Haar

Kwekerij de Haar is a family-owned nursery located in Wierden, with roots dating back to the early 20th century. Originally a small fruit enterprise, it has evolved into a specialized rhododendron nursery that also offers social day activity programs in partnership with a local foundation. The property is wheelchair accessible, with wheelchair-friendly parking and entry, and accepts both pin and credit card payments. The self-picking season runs from the beginning of July through August. Visitors can pick blueberries in July and blackberries in August. The fruit is priced at €6 per kilogram. Upon arrival, a bucket is provided for picking, which can be weighed at the counter.

`T Nije Eskes

Welcome to ’t Nije Eskes, a farm and garden located on the Sanderink family property at Holsterheurneweg 10 in Beuningen, Netherlands. The operation began in 2000 with small-scale production of jams, chutneys, and fruit juices, gradually expanding with the cultivation of blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb, and various berry bushes. Strawberries are now grown in pots in cultivation gutters, and a dedicated plot of blueberry bushes was planted in 2009 for self-picking.

Decohof, kwekerij Overgoor

Decohof Kwekerij Overgoor is a biological certified nursery and farm located in Hoonhorst, Overijssel. The farm operates on the principle that humans, plants, and animals work together in a natural system, without the use of chemical pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Nestled just behind the Isala hospital on the northwestern edge of Zwolle, Het Rode Huis is a charming family-run dairy farm that is part of the Zwolse Stadslanderijen cooperative. This third-generation farm is home to a herd of 110 Holstein cows, which together produce around 900,000 liters of organic milk each year. The farm has a strong focus on sustainability, featuring a self-service vending area and a raw milk tap available 24/7.

Focused on farming in harmony with nature, the farm was converted to fully biological production methods over twenty years ago and raises livestock and grows crops using principles that prioritize soil health, animal welfare, and biodiversity. The farm operates a modern farm shop and a dedicated visitor centre and offers experiences including guided tours, a farm school, and several walking routes.

Zuz & Zo

Boerderij Zuz & Zo is a care farm located in Lierderholthuis, specializing in supporting individuals with autism and light intellectual disabilities. The farm provides a safe and structured environment where approximately fifteen participants, ranging from young adults to those over 50, engage in daily activities. Established in 1994, the farm operates on 13 hectares of land and is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative. The farm grows a wide variety of vegetables, along with small fruit and grains that are milled into their own flour. It serves up to 250 member households, with produce distributed year-round via pick-up points in Deventer, Olst, Wijhe, Diepenveen, and Schalkhaar. A small farm shop on-site also sells products, primarily from the farm itself.

Zelfoogsttuin Nieuwe Akker is a self-pick vegetable garden and nursery located on the Deventer countryside, between Schalkhaar and De Vijfhoek. Operating on 1.3 hectares of fertile land, this Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative offers members the experience of harvesting their own fresh, organic vegetables. All produce is grown without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilizers, emphasizing a natural and sustainable farming approach. Membership is seasonal, running from May through March of the following year. Through a harvest subscription, participants can visit the garden regularly to pick from a wide variety of seasonal crops, including lettuce, green beans, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, red currants, and herbs. Winter purslane is available for harvesting even during the colder winter months. A small herb garden and a tunnel greenhouse are also present on the site for off-season production.

The farm specializes in cultivating blueberries for fresh consumption, and the majority of its harvest is sent to the Fruitmasters auction. Visitors are welcome to pick their own blueberries, as well as other small fruits. Self-Pick Produce and Season During the season, visitors can pick blueberries, red currants, black currants, and gooseberries. The self-pick season generally runs from mid-June to mid-September. Blueberries are typically ready for picking from late June or early July. The other berries, such as red currants, black currants, and gooseberries, are usually available from around June 20th.

Steege's Erf

Steege’s Erf is a farmstead and multi-functional venue located in the rural outskirts of Kampen, at Zwartendijk 3. The property has been in the same family for five generations, originally operating as a dairy farm until 2003. It has since been transformed into a space that combines recreation, care services, and rental facilities, with a strong commitment to sustainability and community connection. A key feature is the pick-your-own garden (pluktuin). The garden opens in April with tulips (around 4,000 bulbs are planted annually), allowing visitors to pull their own tulips by the bulb. From the end of June, a summer garden opens with a diverse range of perennials and summer flowers ideal for making bouquets. Sunflowers are also grown from seeds collected the previous year. The pick-your-own garden and rest point are open from March to October.

Zwolse Stadslanderijen is a cooperative of organic farmers and growers located on the urban fringe of Zwolle, Netherlands. The farm produces its goods within a 30-kilometer radius of the city. The cooperative focuses on regenerating the soil, nature, and landscape around Zwolle by selling locally grown, biological products directly to residents. Visitors can explore the various farmyards on foot or by bike. The farms within the cooperative offer a variety of self-pick and self-harvesting opportunities, including vegetables, soft fruit, and flowers. At De Huppe, visitors can pick their own vegetables and harvest flowers from the garden, with the vegetable plot designed so that produce is ready to harvest every week. Bloementuin Zwolle, located on the Dijklandhoeve farm, is a large, varied flower-picking garden open during the picking season. The season runs from the end of May until the first weekend of the autumn holidays, as long as there is no early frost. Additionally, Biotuin Dijklandhoeve cultivates organic vegetables and soft fruit on a 0.66-hectare plot.

Boerderijwinkel t Duvelshofke

’t Duvelshofke is a farm shop and fruit and workshop farm located in Oldenzaal, in the region of Twente. The farm focuses on regional quality products, offering items from its own farm and local producers. They aim to contribute to a short and transparent food chain. During the summer, the farm has a pick-your-own garden (“pluktuin”) where visitors can harvest fruit and flowers. Visitors can pick their own fruit from the fields, which are planted in spacious rows to accommodate everyone, including those using mobility scooters or pushing prams. The farm also has an on-site shop offering fresh and processed products year-round, such as frozen berries, jams, sauces, chutneys, and locally produced blueberry wine, juice, liqueur, ice cream, and beer. Berkenbroek Blauwe Bessen
