At Blauwe Bessengaard in Emmen you pick your own blueberries from mid-July to late August. The farm also grows other soft fruit, including blackberries, yellow raspberries and Japanese wineberries, when they are in season. You pay by the container: a 700-gram yoghurt tub costs €5. Bring your own containers if you prefer.

The farm is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10.00 to 16.00, and on Tuesday evenings from 18.30 to 20.30. It is closed on Mondays. During the season, the last picking days are usually in the last week of August. The farm is also closed on some days at the end of the season; check the website for exact dates.

You do not need to book or report to the owners before you start picking. Instructions are posted at the entrance, and the owners are usually working in the field if you have questions. The blueberries are grown organically and certified by the EU organic label and Demeter.

The farm has a small roadside stall selling pre-picked fruit, and a larger farm shop at Boerderij ’t Leeuweriksveld, 100 metres away. The shop sells organic vegetables, fruit and store-cupboard items, as well as bread on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You can also order online for collection or local delivery.

Parking is available at the farm, and the site is wheelchair-accessible. Children can follow a nature trail through the fields.

The farm grows around 40 types of vegetables, including common varieties like lettuce, beans, carrots and tomatoes, as well as less familiar ones such as Swiss chard, turnip greens, winter purslane and black radish. There is also a selection of small fruit and over 40 types of flowers. The season runs from May to December, with the widest choice available in summer.

Pauline's Pluktuin

Pauline’s Pluktuin in De Krim is a pick-your-own flower farm where visitors cut their own blooms directly from the field. The farm grows around 30 varieties of dahlias, 45 types of annual flowers and fillers, and a selection of perennials. The season typically runs from early July until mid-October, depending on the weather and the first frost. You pick the flowers yourself, using scissors and a bucket provided by the farm. Stems are priced at €0.60 each, with no minimum or maximum on the size of your bouquet. For a fixed price of €7, you can pick a hand-sized bunch during the last week of the season. Payment is by cash or QR code. The farm also sells gift vouchers for 25 stems (€15) and season passes for three or five visits (€40 or €65), valid for one year.
