Blauwebessenland

Blauwebessenland is a blueberry farm and fruit shop located in America, in the Limburg region of the Netherlands, on the edge of the Mariapeel nature reserve. The farm cultivates approximately 10 hectares of blueberries on environmentally conscious fields and offers a wide range of fresh, preserved, and processed blueberry products in its on-site store. During the blueberry season, visitors can purchase fresh berries or head into the fields to pick their own.

Self-picking of blueberries is available from July until approximately mid-August, with the exact start and end dates announced on the farm’s news page and social media. Reservations are not required for self-picking; visitors can bring their own bucket (which must be weighed first) or use one provided on site. The cost for self-picking is €4.50 per kilogram. The farm’s motto is that only the contents of the bucket are weighed, not the person picking.

The farm offers guided tours from February to June and September to November, as well as a special historical walking tour with a landscape storyteller. On-site amenities include a terrace where visitors can enjoy coffee, homemade blueberry pastries, and ice cream, along with a small playground for children. The business is open for self-picking each first Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 15:00, specifically on April 4th, May 2nd, and June 6th. The business is operational and accepts debit cards, contactless mobile payments, and credit cards. The farm is wheelchair accessible with designated accessible parking and an accessible entrance.

What visitors say

This self-picking farm and garden offers a delightful experience primarily centered around harvesting fresh blueberries, an activity consistently praised as enjoyable, affordable, and perfect for families with children. Visitors appreciate the chance to pick their own berries, often citing the excellent value compared to supermarket prices, with some enthusiastically collecting many kilos for jams and other uses. Many describe the experience as relaxing and even meditative.

Beyond the fields, the location features a welcoming café and shop where guests can savor a variety of delicious blueberry-infused products. Popular choices include blueberry ice cream, cakes, pastries, pancakes, juices, and even wine, all frequently lauded for their freshness and quality. The menu also offers good lunch options, with some highlights like asparagus soup. The staff are repeatedly described as friendly, hospitable, and providing good service, contributing to the pleasant and cozy atmosphere of the indoor and outdoor seating areas.

The farm is particularly well-suited for families, thanks to a small-scale and well-maintained indoor and outdoor playground that keeps children entertained. It’s often seen as an ideal stop for cyclists, nestled in a beautiful setting amidst fields. While most feedback is overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points of critique include occasional slow service in the cafeteria due to staff shortages and suggestions for tidying up the outdoor play area. One reviewer also noted that blueberry pastries might be seasonal and pointed out an accessibility challenge at the shop entrance despite having an accessible toilet. However, the overall sentiment remains highly positive, with many visitors expressing a strong desire to return.
