Boerderij Groeizaam in Emmeloord is a pick-your-own flower farm and organic market garden. The flower field is open during the growing season, with dahlias, asters and zinnias available in autumn. You pick your own bouquet and pay by size, using a QR code or cash in the honesty box. Pluk vouchers are sold in the farm shop as gifts.
The farm also grows vegetables and fruit, including potatoes, onions, beans, pumpkins, apples and pears. These are sold in the farm shop rather than picked by visitors. The shop stocks organic produce from the farm and the region: meat, dairy, cheese, bread toppings, rice and non-food items from brands like Weleda.
Boerderij Groeizaam is a care farm, where people with a distance from the job market work alongside staff and volunteers. The farm processes and packs 150,000 tubs of olives a year for wholesale, under its own label Marc’t and as white label.
The farm shop is open Wednesday to Friday, 9.00 to 17.30, and Saturday, 10.00 to 15.00. The flower field is self-service and open at any time of day. The farm runs occasional pluk workshops in summer and autumn, where you learn to pick and arrange flowers. The annual pumpkin festival in September includes harvesting, a market and pumpkin soup. Parking is available on site.
What visitors say
Visitors come for the well-stocked organic farm shop and the pick-your-own flowers and produce. The shop has a broad range of seasonal, biological products—including gluten- and lactose-free options—and the staff are consistently described as friendly, helpful and patient, especially with children. The farm doubles as a care farm, and many note how proud the team is of the work done by participants in the day programme.
Picking flowers in the pluktuin is popular, though a few found the plants sparse late in the season. On warm days, the farm’s ice cream is a hit. Prices are slightly higher than conventional shops, but most feel the quality justifies it. The only real complaint was one visitor who ended up with a kitchen full of flies after bringing home a bouquet.
