Boerderij Groeizaam is a biological care farm located in Emmeloord, in the Noordoostpolder. With 5.5 hectares of certified organic farmland, a cold greenhouse, and a processing facility for olives, the farm grows a wide variety of seasonal produce. The operation is run together with participants, volunteers, and a small team of supervisors and care farmers. All products are 100% biological, sold directly from the farm, and the farm is SKAL-certified.
The flower picking garden (Bloemenpluktuin) is available for self-picking during the blooming season. The garden typically opens in June for the summer season and closes again in the autumn, when the plants are made winter-ready. Self-picking is possible as soon as the garden is open, and a bouquet costs €8. The garden operates on a self-service basis; visitors can pick at any time of day, with materials provided on-site. The garden is located at Pilotenweg 7A, Emmeloord.
Besides flowers, the farm’s shop sells self-picked and farm-grown seasonal vegetables such as potatoes, beans, onions, pumpkins, leeks, beetroot, kale, and celeriac, as well as fruit, dairy, meat, and other local organic products. The farm also processes and packages 100% biological olives from Greece and southern Italy, which are available in the shop. Seasonal events include a pumpkin harvest festival in September, an open day and harvest festival in July, and evening flower-picking workshops in summer.
The farm shop is open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 09:00 to 17:30, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00. The farm is closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday. The flower picking garden is open during the growing season, typically from June until autumn. Accessible parking and entrance are available. The farm accepts debit cards and contactless mobile payments and is suitable for a quick visit.
What visitors say
This self-picking farm and garden consistently garners high praise for its diverse selection of beautiful, honest, and high-quality organic and biodynamic products, including gluten- and lactose-free options. Visitors frequently commend the exceptionally friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic staff, who are noted for their attentiveness and excellent service, even accommodating requests outside regular opening hours. The owner is also celebrated for her hospitality, contributing to the overall welcoming atmosphere.
It’s considered a delightful destination, particularly for families with children, offering an enjoyable experience in the picking garden, though it can occasionally be a bit sparse. While some customers acknowledge that the products might be slightly more expensive, they generally agree that the superior quality justifies the cost. The farm is also recognized for its social impact, employing and guiding individuals in both the shop and the fields, showing dedicated attention to those in their care.
Isolated incidents include one user’s experience with picked bouquets leading to a subsequent fly issue at home, and a singular, highly negative but unspecified, review.
