At CSA Zelfoogsttuin Kraaybeekerhof in Driebergen-Rijsenburg, members of the community farm grow and harvest their own organic vegetables, herbs, flowers and small fruit. The farm operates as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model, where participants commit to a season of produce in exchange for a share of the harvest. You pick what is ready each week during the growing season, which runs from spring to autumn.

The land is open 24 hours a day from Monday to Saturday, though the farm is closed on Sundays. The kwekerij (nursery) is accessible at any time for purchasing plants, with a self-service till. Staff are available on Fridays and Saturdays to answer questions. From 1 May to 18 October, the theetuin (tea garden) is open from 10.30 to 17.00, and the landgoedwinkel (estate shop) from 12.00 to 17.00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The farm also hosts workshops, courses and events throughout the year. The estate is freely accessible from sunrise to sunset. Parking is available on site.

The selection includes seasonal vegetables, fruit, herbs, and plant cuttings, all grown biodynamically. A few note that prices are high, especially for drinks like tea, but others don’t mind paying for the quality. There’s often a small market or workshops, and some come just to relax on the terrace or join an event like Ecstatic Dance. Kids can explore, though there’s no dedicated play area. The only real downside is that not everyone finds it suitable for celebrations.

Moestuin Vollenhoven

Moestuin Vollenhoven in De Bilt is a historic and regenerative kitchen garden where you can pick your own flowers from late June to the end of September. The garden grows over sixty varieties, including annuals and perennials such as larkspur, snapdragons, sweet peas, gypsophila, dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers and asters. You buy a flower-cutting card, with each cut worth €17.50—enough for about five large dahlia stems or twenty-five sweet peas. The flowers are grown without chemical pesticides or fertilisers, using no-dig methods to protect the soil.

Tuinderij Amelis’Hof

Tuinderij Amelis’Hof in Bunnik is a historic, one-hectare market garden where you can pick your own flowers and seasonal vegetables. The farm grows around 100 varieties of vegetables, including heritage types like oerbiet (a traditional beetroot), winter broccoli, snijbiet (Swiss chard), spekbonen (flat green beans), pastinaak (parsnip) and aardpeer (Jerusalem artichoke). There are also 25 types of herbs, small fruits and over 150 flower species, such as cornflowers, sweet peas, dahlias and zinnias. The flower field is open from late May until October.

Landwinkel Nieuw Slagmaat

Landwinkel Nieuw Slagmaat in Bunnik is a mixed farm where you can pick your own fruit, berries and pumpkins. The main crops are apples, pears, plums, cherries, kiwiberries and pumpkins. The farm also grows kiwis, though these are not available for picking. Picking is organised on set days, usually Fridays and Saturdays, with some events on Sundays. In June and July you can pick cherries; in July and August plums and summer apples; in September apples, pears, kiwiberries and pumpkins; and in October pumpkins. Exact dates depend on the weather and are announced on the farm’s website and in its newsletter. During the apple-picking weekends in September, the farm opens on Sundays as well.

De Moestuin Utrecht
