De Groene Schuur is an experiential farm and garden located in Groessen, offering a blend of cultivation, culinary activities, and events. The establishment operates a nursery, a regional shop, and a cooking studio situated within its greenhouses.
The nursery cultivates a diverse array of fresh produce year-round, utilizing natural and environmentally conscious methods. In the greenhouses, a variety of tropical and forgotten vegetables are grown, alongside numerous types of peppers ranging from sweet to very spicy, fresh herbs, ornamental fruits, and edible flowers. Outdoors, hundreds of pumpkin and gourd varieties are grown, available from late July, in addition to seasonal potatoes and other vegetables.
While the farm does not offer a public self-picking service for general visitors, participants in the cooking workshops often have the unique opportunity to harvest their own ingredients directly from the nursery. This includes a selection of tropical and forgotten vegetables, various types of peppers (sweet to very spicy), fresh herbs, edible flowers, seasonal potatoes, and, from late July, pumpkins and gourds.
Beyond cultivation, De Groene Schuur features a regional shop where its fresh produce is sold. The shop also stocks homemade products such as jams, chutneys, and sambals, as well as a range of local specialty products including cheeses, honey, wines, and baking mixes. The farm is a hub for culinary education, hosting individual and group cooking workshops covering diverse international cuisines, BBQ and outdoor cooking, and themed events like High Tea and picnic workshops. Cooking courses for all skill levels and children’s cooking parties are also part of the offering.
The venue also provides creative workshops for adults, focusing on seasonal crafting. Guided excursions are available, offering an educational tour through the greenhouses and fields, complete with opportunities to learn about, touch, and taste various vegetables and peppers. De Groene Schuur serves as a versatile location for private events, meetings, and teambuilding activities, with arrangements that can combine tours, cooking, and creative sessions, and it also hosts weddings and presentations within its distinctive greenhouse settings.
