De Oosterwaarde

De Oosterwaarde in Diepenveen is a biological-dynamic farm where you can pick your own flowers, soft fruit and seasonal vegetables. The farm holds Demeter certification and grows over 50 varieties of vegetables, along with grains, fruit and flowers.

The flower field is open from June to October. You can pick a bouquet during shop opening hours for €10, or buy a punch card for five visits (€42.50) or a season pass for 15 visits (€105). The farm provides scissors and twine; you pay at the shop. The fruit season runs from June to September. You pick raspberries, blackberries, redcurrants, whitecurrants, blackcurrants, jostaberries, gooseberries and autumn-fruiting raspberries. A kilo costs €12, or you can buy a season pass for 15 visits (€40). From 2027 the farm plans to offer pick-your-own vegetables as well.

The farm shop sells the farm’s own vegetables, potatoes, flour, fruit, honey, jams, juices and eggs, along with seasonal flowers and plants. It is open year-round: Tuesday and Friday 14.00 to 17.00, Saturday 10.00 to 12.00. In summer (June to September) hours extend to Wednesday 14.00 to 17.00, Friday 11.00 to 17.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 13.00.

The farm also runs a vegetable subscription scheme. Members collect a weekly box of seasonal produce from the farm or one of 18 local pick-up points. Three box sizes are available, with prices set on a sliding scale. The scheme runs for 50 weeks a year, closing only around Christmas and New Year.

De Oosterwaarde is wheelchair-accessible, with step-free parking and entrance. The farm hosts an annual harvest festival in September and an open day in May. A small flock of Drenthe heath sheep grazes the land. The farm is part of a community-supported agriculture model, where members share in the harvest and contribute to the farm’s costs.

What visitors say

This is a small, well-kept farm where you can pick your own vegetables, fruit, potatoes, and eggs. The produce is fresh and good quality—most visitors call it “pure” or “delicious.” Prices are reasonable, and you can either pick what you need or get a subscription for home delivery. The farm isn’t open every day, so check ahead. A few mention it’s a great place to stop by, though it’s not set up as a full day out. The staff are helpful, and the setup works fine with children, though there’s no play area or extra entertainment.
