De Stadsboerderij is a biodynamic farm located in Almere, Netherlands, with its extensive fields spread throughout and around the city. This farm operates on 210 hectares dedicated to both arable farming and vegetable cultivation, emphasizing nature-inclusive agricultural practices.
The farm cultivates a variety of grains, including spelt, barley, oats, and wheat, along with legumes such as alfalfa, clover, beans, and peas. Its vegetable crops comprise onions, red beets, peas, cabbage, carrots, pumpkins, and silver onions. While many of these vegetables are primarily supplied to the conserves industry, some carrots and red beets are also available for the fresh market. Additionally, De Stadsboerderij raises Marchigiana and Fleckvieh suckler cows, offering their organic beef for sale.
The farm serves as a community hub across two primary locations. At Erf Kemphaanpad, a vibrant organic farmers’ market takes place every Saturday morning, featuring a wide selection of fresh, biological products. These include the farm’s own beef, bread, seasonal vegetables, fruit, dairy, and seasonal flowers. This site also provides facilities for meetings, culinary workshops, and cultural events. The second location, Erf Vliervelden, is part of a residential-work community and hosts an Odin farm shop with a food café, offering a comprehensive range of organic groceries.
Regarding self-picking, seasonal flowers are available from “Pluktuin Vliervelden,” a vendor at the farmers’ market at Erf Kemphaanpad. While visitors can observe various vegetables like onions, red beets, peas, and cabbage growing in the fields around Almere, the farm does not explicitly offer its food crops for direct self-picking by visitors.
