De Tulperij is a third-generation family-run flower bulb farm and visitor attraction located in the heart of the Bollenstreek in Voorhout. Visitors are welcome to experience the beauty of the flower fields, show gardens, and picking gardens in both spring and autumn. Access to the catering, shop, and show gardens is free.
Self-picking is available during two main seasons. In the spring, you can pick your own tulips and daffodils in the picking garden. The tulip season generally runs from early to late April, depending on the weather. In the late summer and autumn, you can pick your own dahlias and sunflowers. The dahlia season is open from late July to mid-October, typically from mid-August to mid-October.
The farm is open daily throughout both seasons. During the tulip season (March 19 to May 10, 2026), the hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. During the dahlia season (July 31 to October 11, 2026), the hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The farm is open on Sundays and public holidays. Additional amenities include free on-site parking, wheelchair accessibility, and a terrace and greenhouse where you can enjoy coffee, tea, and homemade cakes.
What visitors say
This charming flower farm offers a truly delightful and authentic experience, widely recommended as a refreshing alternative to more bustling tourist attractions. Visitors are consistently captivated by the vibrant and extensive collection of flowers on display throughout the seasons, from hundreds of tulip varieties in the spring to impressive fields of dahlias and sunflowers later in the year. A standout feature is the self-picking garden, where guests can craft their own beautiful bouquets at reasonable prices, an experience that many find incredibly enjoyable.
The atmosphere is widely described as cozy, friendly, and genuinely welcoming, thanks to the enthusiastic and helpful nature of the owners and staff. Inside, a charming café adorned with vintage touches offers delicious homemade cakes, coffee, tea, and specialty drinks like tulip beer, complemented by comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. Beyond simply viewing and picking flowers, the farm provides educational opportunities through workshops and tours on bulb cultivation, as well as engaging scavenger hunts designed for children, making it an ideal family outing.
Accessibility is a notable positive, with free entry to the show gardens, the availability of wheelchairs, and a dog-friendly policy. The location is also highlighted as a perfect refreshment stop for those cycling through the picturesque bulb region. While overwhelmingly positive, a few isolated comments surfaced about specific dahlia picking rules (intended to ensure optimal vase life), a minor incident involving an expired snack which the management promptly addressed, or observations about fields being past their peak bloom towards the very end of a season—natural factors acknowledged by the establishment. Overall, the genuine passion for horticulture and warm hospitality create a memorable visit, inspiring many to return.
