De Wickevoorter Stadsboeren is an urban farm located in the Wickevoort neighborhood that practices organic agriculture with care for people, animals, and the earth. They participate in the NLDoet event.
The farm operates as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) or “self-picking garden.” Customers can become members and share in the harvest for the duration of a season. Members pay a participation fee before the start of the season and then can harvest weekly. The harvest follows the seasons, starting in May with lettuce and radishes, then beans, cucumbers, onions, carrots, zucchini, and pumpkins. As winter approaches, they offer sprouts, kale, and lamb’s lettuce. They grow about 50-60 different types of vegetables throughout the year.
In the self-picking garden, you can harvest vegetables every week from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM until sunset. The farmers use animal manure or compost to ensure a healthy soil and do not use artificial fertilizers or pesticides.
Participation costs approximately €10 per person per week and is calculated as follows:
- Per person: €350
- For 2 persons: €650
- Family subscription: €775
The self picking season runs from mid-May to Christmas, and includes the months of January and February where there will be less of an offer.
They also have a flower picking garden that is open from July to the end of September. Participants can pick their own bouquets consisting of a variety of field flowers. The flowers are grown in the ground without pesticides and considering offering a varied offer for insects. A subscription to the flower picking garden costs €125 and allows you to pick a bouquet (20 stems) 15 times during the season. It is also possible to pick a bouquet once for €10 or purchase a gift certificate. The flower picking garden is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The farm has a shop that sells products from their own farm and also local and other organic products. You can buy seasonal vegetables from their own garden, as well as meat from their chickens and pigs. They also make jam and ice cream from the products in their garden.
