De Zomerschuur in Burgum is a pick-your-own farm with a focus on flowers, herbs and seasonal produce from its own gardens. Visitors can pick edible flowers such as nasturtium, cornflower, marigold, violet and sunflower, as well as herbs and salad leaves from the kitchen garden. The farm also has a small orchard where you can pick apples and pears in season.
Picking is available for €7.50, which allows you to create your own bouquet. In the orchard, you pay for the fruit you pick by weight. The farm provides containers, but you can also bring your own. The flower and herb gardens are designed for easy access, with raised beds and clear paths.
The farm is open on Fridays from 12.00 to 16.00 and Saturdays from 10.00 to 16.00, or by appointment. Outside these hours, a 24-hour vending machine on the premises sells frozen and chilled products, including beef from the farm’s own calves, eggs, cheese, fruit and homemade preserves.
De Zomerschuur also has a farm shop selling homemade jams, chutneys, desserts, vegetables, fruit, vinegar, fresh eggs and herbs, as well as leather cowhide bags and other gifts. A modern kitchen studio hosts cooking workshops and tastings, where visitors can prepare dishes using ingredients from the farm. The farm’s own cookbook, featuring recipes with veal as the main ingredient, is available for purchase.
The farm is wheelchair-accessible, with accessible parking and an entrance. It is also registered as a rustpunt (rest stop) for walkers and cyclists, offering a place to relax, use the toilet or charge an e-bike.

The farm is known for its high-quality veal products, especially the kalfsrolade, which many visitors call the best they’ve had. There’s a good selection of seasonal boxes—autumn meat boxes and gift packages are popular—and the shop also sells homemade stews, local products, and small gifts. Most people find the prices fair, though a few mention they’re on the higher side.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the farm has a relaxed, family-friendly setup with a pick-your-own garden, a summer shed with a gift shop, and sometimes workshops. The 24-hour automated storage is handy for picking up orders outside opening hours. A couple of visitors had less positive experiences—one found the staff unwelcoming when bringing a dog, another arrived to find the shop unexpectedly closed—but most describe the place as neat, well-organised, and enjoyable to browse.
