Dijklandhoeve

Dijklandhoeve

Zwolse Stadslanderijen is a cooperative of organic farmers and growers located on the urban fringe of Zwolle, Netherlands. The farm produces its goods within a 30-kilometer radius of the city. The cooperative focuses on regenerating the soil, nature, and landscape around Zwolle by selling locally grown, biological products directly to residents. Visitors can explore the various farmyards on foot or by bike.

The farms within the cooperative offer a variety of self-pick and self-harvesting opportunities, including vegetables, soft fruit, and flowers. At De Huppe, visitors can pick their own vegetables and harvest flowers from the garden, with the vegetable plot designed so that produce is ready to harvest every week. Bloementuin Zwolle, located on the Dijklandhoeve farm, is a large, varied flower-picking garden open during the picking season. The season runs from the end of May until the first weekend of the autumn holidays, as long as there is no early frost. Additionally, Biotuin Dijklandhoeve cultivates organic vegetables and soft fruit on a 0.66-hectare plot.

The farm’s central location, the Dijklandhoeve, is open for business and features a farm shop. The general business hours for the main location (Boerderijwinkel Dijklandhoeve) are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. The location is closed on Sundays and Mondays, as well as on Koningsdag and Ascension Day. The farm shop is also closed for a summer break from July 21st through August 17th. Other farm shops within the cooperative have their own schedules: Landwinkel De Huppe is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 to 17:00, and Boerderijwinkel Overesch is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00. The farm is wheelchair accessible, with a wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance. Dogs are also allowed on the premises.

What visitors say

This self-picking farm and garden is consistently lauded as a welcoming destination, offering a delightful experience for both shoppers and families. Visitors frequently commend the beautifully maintained location, which features a well-stocked farm shop and appealing pick-your-own gardens for both flowers and fruit. The shop is celebrated for its extensive selection of organic and regional products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and other local specialty items, often noted to be competitively priced compared to other organic retailers.

The establishment fosters a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere, making it particularly attractive for families. Children can delight in dedicated play areas, such as a large hay barn and a sandbox. Adults appreciate the cozy on-site cafe, serving coffee, tea, and local baked goods like apple pie, with outdoor seating offering picturesque views of the organic gardens. The venue is also highlighted as an excellent choice for hosting parties and events, providing a spacious area where guests can bring their own catering and entertainment, supported by friendly and accommodating staff.

While the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, some minor points were noted by reviewers. There is conflicting feedback regarding accessibility for disabled visitors, with one review stating the shop is inaccessible while another praises its disabled-friendly access and notes a wheelchair ramp to the toilet. Additionally, some customers find certain organic vegetables to be on the pricier side, though this is often acknowledged as reflective of organic sourcing. It’s also noted that the farm is closed on Sundays, and for fresh bread, it’s advisable to pre-order or arrive early on baking days (Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) due to high demand.
