Floramarita is a self-picking garden located in Genne, near Hasselt, the Netherlands. The garden offers visitors the opportunity to pick their own summer flowers to create a custom bouquet, typically consisting of 20-25 stems. The farm is committed to sustainable practices, growing flowers without artificial fertilizers or pesticides, which benefits the soil and ensures locally sourced blooms.
The experience at Floramarita extends beyond picking; guests can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and a “Combideal” that includes picking flowers, having them skillfully arranged into a beautiful bouquet by the owner, Marita, and savoring homemade cake (often walnut-caramel, made with walnuts from the farm’s own trees) with coffee or tea.
While the 2025 picking season is currently closed for future planning, the garden typically welcomes visitors from July to September on Friday and Saturday mornings. Group visits of up to 15 people are welcome by prior arrangement, and children are also invited to enjoy the garden, which features a small sandpit. Payments can be made with cash, QR code, or via “tikkie” (a Dutch mobile payment request), as debit card facilities are not available.
In addition to the self-picking garden, Floramarita produces and sells customizable wooden seed storage boxes. These boxes, crafted from pine and birch wood with a modular interior, are available year-round and can be personalized with laser engraving. A “picking garden starter package” is also offered, which combines a seed storage box with untreated, self-harvested seeds from the garden. These seeds enable customers to cultivate their own summer flowers at home, with varieties such as Poppy, Gilia, Zinnia, Cosmea, Daucus (wild carrot), Sunflower, Coreopsis, and Strawflower.
