FrankenFruit in Bergen op Zoom is a pick-your-own farm where visitors can harvest fruit, vegetables and flowers from mid-June to mid-November. The farm grows over a dozen varieties of apples, including Elstar, Jonagold, Pinova and Santana, as well as pears, plums, cherries, blackberries, redcurrants and gooseberries. Vegetables include pumpkins, courgettes, sugar maize, runner beans, beetroot, kale, tomatoes and white onions. The flower field offers dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, sweet peas and dried flowers, with prices per stem or bunch.
You pay by the kilo for fruit and vegetables, and by the stem for flowers. The farm provides containers for €0.25 each, or you can bring your own. Before picking, check at the shop which crops are ready to harvest—some, like apples and pears, may look ripe before they are. The farm enforces strict rules: you must report to the shop before picking, only harvest what is permitted, and pay for everything you take, including unripe produce at triple the price. Smoking is not allowed on the fields or in the orchards.
FrankenFruit is open Monday to Saturday, 10.00 to 17.00, and closed on Sundays. The farm also has a shop selling its own jams, apple-pear syrup, juices and honey, as well as eggs and locally sourced cheese. A small play area with pedal tractors and scooters is available for children.
Beyond picking, the farm offers activities such as guided tours, cookery workshops, children’s parties and seasonal events like pumpkin carving in October.
