Fruitbedrijf Horstink

Fruitbedrijf Horstink

Fruitbedrijf Horstink is a family-run fruit farm located in the Achterhoek region of the Netherlands, on the farm ‘de Groote Wei’ in Rha, near Steenderen and the river IJssel. Operating as a fruit and vegetable store, the farm has a strong focus on environmentally conscious cultivation and offers a wide range of products and experiences.

Visitors can self-pick a variety of fruit during special events. The farm hosts “Plukdagen” (Pick Your Own Days), typically during the first weekend of September, where you can pick apples and pears directly from the orchard. Varieties available for picking have included Elstar, Goudreinet, and Delcorf apples, as well as Conference pears, for a price of €1.50 per kilo. While the Plukdagen are a specific recurring event, the farm itself is a working orchard throughout the year. The farm shop is open from Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00, and on Saturday from 9:00 to 16:00. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

The farm’s harvest season for the farm shop begins in the summer with early apples and pears in August, while the main harvest of apples and pears takes place from mid-September through the autumn. The farm shop sells its own fruit, including apples, pears, plums, and cherries, as well as a full range of seasonal vegetables, local cheeses, meats, and regional specialties. The farm also features a cidery, “Ciderij de Groote Wei,” producing ciders from its own apples and pears. A farm terrace is open from the blossom period (early spring) until October 1st, offering a place to enjoy coffee, cake, and farm products. The farm is wheelchair accessible, offers free on-site parking, and has a gender-neutral toilet.

What visitors say

This self-picking farm and its farm shop consistently receive high praise for their impressive selection of fresh, delicious, and high-quality produce and local specialties. Visitors frequently highlight the extensive variety on offer, ranging from seasonal fruits like apples, pears, strawberries, and cherries—often available for self-picking directly from the orchards—to a broad assortment of vegetables, dairy products, cheeses, meats, nuts, honey, apple syrup, and homemade salads. The warm and friendly atmosphere is often commended, with many reviewers praising the helpful and attentive staff.

Beyond the shopping experience, the farm provides a delightful outing for families, featuring tractor rides through the orchards, bouncy castles, and sandpits for children, particularly popular during fruit-picking days. Guests appreciate the pleasant outdoor terrace, which offers scenic views of the fruit trees and is an ideal spot to enjoy coffee, cake, or local ice cream. While some customers note the prices can be a little higher compared to supermarkets, many consider them fair for the exceptional quality and local origin of the products. The farm is widely recommended as a must-visit destination, inspiring loyalty among those who value fresh, regional goods. One isolated negative review cited dissatisfaction with a specific sandwich order, but the overwhelming sentiment is positive.
