Fruitboerderij (Görtz Fruit) in Baarlo is a family-run fruit farm that has grown cherries, pears, plums, apples and grapes along the Maas for over 150 years. From late June to early October, visitors can pick their own fruit during organised picking days.
The farm grows morello cherries (a small, tart variety), Williams and Conference pears, mirabelle and blue plums, Elstar, Braeburn and Gloster apples, and small quantities of Auxerrois, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir grapes. Each fruit has its own picking window: cherries in late June and early July, Williams pears in mid-August, mirabelles and blue plums in August and early September, and apples from late August to mid-September. The exact dates are announced on the farm’s website and Facebook page a few days in advance, as they depend on the weather and ripeness.
Picking is organised on specific days, usually between 10.00 and 14.00. You pay by the kilo, with prices ranging from €1.75 for pears to €3.25 for cherries. You can bring your own bucket or basket, and small stepladders are useful for reaching higher branches. The farm also sells pre-picked fruit at a slightly higher price. Payment is by cash or QR code. Parking is limited, so visitors are encouraged to come by bike.
The farm’s main location in Baarlo has a farm shop selling its own juices, jams and other fruit products. It also rents out three holiday homes for groups of 16 to 30 people and operates a meeting venue, De Fruitschuur, which can host up to 20 people. The farm is wheelchair-accessible, with designated parking and an accessible entrance.

Kids enjoy the outdoor space and games, while adults appreciate the tidy rooms and well-kept surroundings. Picking is straightforward, though the prune vending machine has disappointed a few. The fruit is generally good, though some crops can be overripe or sell out quickly. Prices are reasonable, and the farm’s setting among orchards and vineyards makes for a pleasant visit. Tiny houses are available, but some find them too small for longer stays.
