This self-picking farm, named Gelukkige Groentes, offers members the opportunity to harvest their own fresh produce from two locations in Ooij and Malden, Netherlands. Operating on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, the farm emphasizes a direct relationship between growers and consumers.

The farming practices are nature-inclusive and regenerative, focusing on improving soil life and biodiversity without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or heavy machinery. Biological seeds and plants are used, and the soil is disturbed as little as possible. This approach aims to contribute positively to CO2 reduction, biodiversity restoration, and the reduction of plastic waste and food waste by encouraging local consumption and self-harvesting.

Members can participate by purchasing a weekly harvesting subscription, which runs from May through December. The subscription is per household, with varied pricing for adults, teens, and free participation for children aged 0-9. Payments can be made monthly or in a single lump sum. A trial subscription for one month is also available, and financial assistance options are offered for low-income households. The Ooij location is situated at Leuthsestraat 3, open to subscribers seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.

Over the season, the farm cultivates more than 60 different varieties of produce. Available for self-picking are:

  • Vegetables: Seasonal vegetables including common types like leek, onion, carrot, and cauliflower, alongside less common varieties such as Hakurai turnip, tromboncino squash, parsnip, Swiss chard, purslane, cavolo nero, turnips (meirapen), Chioggia beets, turnip greens, and kale.
  • Herbs: A variety of fresh herbs, including oregano, coriander, dill, parsley, and lemon clover.
  • Fruits: Small fruits are available for a portion of the season.
  • Flowers: Seasonal flowers and cut flowers are also grown, some of which are edible.

Members are not required to assist with farm work, as the growers manage the garden, but voluntary workdays are organized monthly for those who wish to participate.
