Hanna’s Pluktuin is a sustainable flower garden located just outside Makkinga in Friesland, offering visitors the chance to pick their own seasonal blooms directly from the field. This family-run garden focuses on sustainably grown flowers, providing a colorful and relaxing outdoor experience. Visitors can pick a wide variety of flowers, including dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, strawflowers, amaranthus, ornamental tobacco, matthiola, limonium, salvia, paper daisies, scabiosa, fountain grass, calendula, statice, echinacea, achillea, lamb’s ear, snapdragons, ammi majus, nigella, bronze fennel, phlox, gomphrena, lion’s ear, and marguerites, among many others.
The pick-your-own season opens in July. It is open on Thursday evenings from 19:00 until sunset and on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00. On Saturdays, coffee, tea, and treats are available. The garden is closed on all other days of the week. The garden is wheelchair accessible, with hard paths, though the picking field itself has grass paths which can be more difficult during wet weather. It is a child-friendly destination, with a treehouse for children to play in, though supervision is required. Dogs are not allowed, except for service animals. The garden is LGBTQ+ friendly and run by a female entrepreneur. Picnic tables are available on site.
