Hazelland 10 is an agro-ecological self-picking farm and garden situated on the outskirts of Zoeterwoude, Zoetermeer, and Leidschendam, along the scenic Polderpad route. It operates as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) initiative, inviting individuals to become “harvest companions” rather than customers. Members contribute financially for a season in advance, sharing both the bounty and the inherent risks of farming.
From May to November, harvest companions can visit the farm weekly to pick their own produce. Typically, this includes an average of five different seasonal vegetables along with various herbs to enhance flavors. The farm is committed to sustainable practices, having cultivated its land organically since 2000, using organic plant and seed material. It focuses on nurturing a healthy, covered soil with green fertilizers and compost, promoting biodiversity through crop rotation and plant combinations, and entirely avoiding pesticides. The farm aims to acquire Skal organic certification.
Beyond harvesting, Hazelland 10 offers a rich natural experience. It serves as an educational and inspirational space, collaborating with Stichting De Groene Ontmoeting to provide activities such as an “evolution garden” and information on soil life. The farm is run by a father-daughter duo, Wim and Eline, supported by a tiny house team. It works closely with sister farm ’t Geertje, located nearby on the Polderpad, where visitors can find organic dairy, cheese, meat, and eggs, complementing Hazelland 10’s fresh produce. The farm is open for self-picking from Wednesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 17:00 during the harvest season.
What visitors say
This self-picking farm consistently receives high praise for its commitment to providing fresh, organic produce. Patrons frequently highlight the extensive variety of delicious vegetables and herbs on offer, emphasizing that all crops are unsprayed and meticulously cared for. For many, it has become a weekly ritual to harvest their own produce, enjoying the superb quality throughout the season. Beyond the excellent selection, the farm is celebrated for its family-friendly atmosphere, making it a delightful and accessible outing for children. Operating on a membership model, the farm also extends its organic offerings to include an egg subscription. One review, however, stands out as an anomaly, mentioning the location only in the context of a minor traffic incident, unrelated to the farm’s services or produce.
