Kersentuin De Wendelenhutte

Kersentuin De Wendelenhutte

Kersentuin de Wendelenhutte is a self-picking farm located in Lintelo, specializing in cherry cultivation. The farm features a 1-hectare cherry orchard with 20 different varieties of sweet cherries, which allows for an extended harvest period of approximately 8 weeks, typically running from mid-June to early August. Among the cherry varieties available are early types such as Burlat, Merchant, and Vanda; mid-season varieties like Canada Giant, Oktavia, and Kordia; and late varieties including Regina, Sweetheart, and Karina.

To ensure optimal fruit quality, the orchard is covered with a protective cloth during the cherry season to shield the cherries from birds and rain. Bees are integral to the pollination process, with beehives maintained within the orchard, and fire pots are used to protect the trees from frost. Visitors have the opportunity to pick their own cherries directly from the trees.

Beyond the orchard, the farm operates a shop that sells fresh cherries when in season. The shop also offers a range of homemade products, including cherry jam and cherry sauce, as well as honey derived from their own cherry blossoms. Additional items available are various syrups, wines, traditional Dutch stroop, mustards, fruit juices, and other types of jams. Customers can also create custom gift packages from the selection of farm products.

During the cherry season, guests can relax on a terrace or in an indoor area, enjoying coffee, tea, soft drinks, or cherry ice cream. Group excursions to the cherry orchard can be arranged by appointment. In addition to its cherry operations, the farm also maintains a separate branch dedicated to raising the rare ‘Nederlands Landvarken’ (Dutch Land Pig) as part of a breed preservation effort.

The farm’s opening hours during cherry season are Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Outside of cherry season, the shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
