Koningshof is an urban agriculture initiative located on the eastern edge of Utrecht. Situated in a historic horticultural area within the floodplain of the Kromme Rijn, this green space is dedicated to preserving and strengthening the city’s agricultural identity. The site offers a range of activities focused on connecting people with a healthy and sustainable food system, where visitors can learn about growing, harvesting, preserving, and preparing their own food.
The picking garden (pluktuin) is open from the end of June through October, allowing visitors to pick their own flowers every Saturday during the season. In addition to the picking garden, the farm sells a variety of other self-picked and locally sourced items. The market stall offers their own unsprayed vegetables and herbs, seasonal produce, grape juice from the greenhouse, and honey from the on-site beekeeping operation. They also feature an assortment of regional products from other local initiatives, including fruit, potatoes, juices, mushrooms, eggs, cheese, jam, syrups, bread, and craft beer. The site provides rental vegetable gardens for those who wish to grow their own vegetables under professional guidance, with a greenhouse that allows everything to grow a month earlier than outdoors.
The farm’s coffee shack (De Keet) is open during the season, offering coffee, tea, soft drinks, ice cream, and seasonal dishes for breakfast, lunch, or a drink. The property also features orchards and a greenhouse for visitors to enjoy. Koningshof is open to the public from March through October, every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The gardens are accessible by wheelchair. The business is operational and has a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
