Landwinkel Kaasboerderij Speksnijder is an artisanal cheese farm and dairy located in Lekkerkerk, in the Krimpenerwaard region of the Netherlands. Run by Jan Speksnijder and Jan Herm Bokdam, the farm has a tradition spanning over a century, combining old-fashioned cheesemaking techniques with modern practices. The farm is home to a herd of over 100 dairy cows that graze on pasture for at least 120 days per year, producing high-quality weidemelk (pasture milk) that forms the base for all its products. The farm is also an event location and offers guided tours for groups of 10 or more.
A wide variety of Gouda-style cheeses can be purchased directly from the on-farm shop or through the online webshop. The selection ranges from Jonge Kaas (young, aged 6 weeks), Jong Belegen, Belegen, Extra Belegen, and Oud (aged 12 months) to Extra Oud. Herb-infused varieties are also available, including Brandnetel (nettle), Fenegriek (fenugreek), Italiaans (Italian herbs), Bieslook paprika (chive and paprika), Gember (ginger), Knoflook-ui (garlic and onion), and Wintermelange (winter spice). A 30+ low-fat cheese and a low-sodium cheese (Natrium Arm) are offered as well. In addition to cheese, the farm provides fresh, unprocessed whole weidemelk directly from an on-farm milk dispenser, which operates on a coin system. These dairy products are available year-round; the milk dispenser is accessible whenever the farm shop is open.
The on-farm store is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The farm is closed to visitors on Sundays.
What visitors say
This charming farm shop consistently receives high praise from visitors for its exceptional products and welcoming ambiance. Many customers highlight the farm-fresh cheese as a standout, frequently calling it the “best” in the region or even the Netherlands, with a wide variety from young to aged, including specialty flavors like fenugreek and Italian herbs. Patrons often make special trips or order online specifically for this delicious cheese.
The beautifully designed and meticulously clean store boasts an extensive array of local and regional products beyond cheese, such as fresh milk from a self-service tap, various dairy items like buttermilk and yogurt, as well as jams, mustards, nuts, and locally brewed beers. Shoppers also appreciate the selection of unique gifts and the option to create personalized gift packages. The friendly, helpful, and hospitable staff are consistently noted for providing excellent customer service, often offering samples to enhance the shopping experience.
The location itself is a significant draw, set in a lovely polder landscape with a delightful outdoor terrace. This makes it an ideal spot for enjoying their highly recommended soft-serve and sorbet ice cream (including lactose-free options) or a coffee break during a bike ride. The atmosphere is described as pleasant and family-friendly, with ample parking and opportunities to see farm animals. While some customers perceive certain items, particularly meat, as a bit expensive, most agree that the high quality justifies the price. One older comment noted the absence of raw milk cheese, which the owners clarified hasn’t been produced for 25 years.
Overall, the farm shop is celebrated as a fantastic, well-stocked destination for authentic farm products, friendly service, and a delightful rural outing, leading many to become loyal, returning customers.
