Overesch ecologische landbouw

Overesch is an ecological farm and mixed business located in Raalte, in the Salland region. Focused on farming in harmony with nature, the farm was converted to fully biological production methods over twenty years ago and raises livestock and grows crops using principles that prioritize soil health, animal welfare, and biodiversity. The farm operates a modern farm shop and a dedicated visitor centre and offers experiences including guided tours, a farm school, and several walking routes.

The farm produces a variety of crops on its fields, which are rotated annually to maintain soil fertility. Offerings include potatoes (planted in March and April, harvested in August and September), green asparagus, sweet corn (harvested from August), and different varieties of pumpkins (harvested in September and October). The fields also grow grains such as barley, rye, oats, wheat, and spelt. The farm raises Brandrode cattle and a herd of pigs. Products from the farm—including fresh vegetables, meat, eggs, dairy, bread, and other items—are available in the farm shop. Customers can also subscribe to a weekly vegetable or fruit subscription box.

The farm shop and visitor centre are open Tuesday through Friday from 09:00 to 18:00, and on Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00. The shop is closed on Sunday and Monday. The visitor centre is also open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Additional facilities include a dedicated room for group visits, a skybox overlooking the pig stables, and a terrace. The farm also offers a home delivery service within the Salland region, and serves as an Ekoplaza pick-up point.

What visitors say

This highly-rated organic and biodynamic farm provides a truly welcoming and enjoyable experience for its visitors. The farm features a beautiful shop praised for its wide and often surprising assortment of high-quality, healthy products, including fresh vegetables, fruits, delicious bread, cheese, honey, and even excellent BBQ meat sourced for large groups. Customers consistently highlight the friendly and helpful staff, finding the overall service superb.

A key draw is the farm’s transparent commitment to animal welfare, particularly evident with its pigs. Visitors are invited to observe the animals freely roaming in spacious enclosures, including mud wallows, a sight often described as reflecting an ideal world. While one visitor noted the unfortunate discovery of a deceased piglet, the general sentiment underscores that the pigs lead a good life here, with the farm actively striving for low mortality and maintaining transparency in its operations. The farm welcomes public viewing, offers excursions, and hosts open days to educate visitors on their sustainable, circular farming practices.

Nestled in a picturesque rural setting, the farm is more than just a place to buy produce; it serves as an inviting destination. Many enjoy stopping for coffee and biological treats on the terrace, and it’s a popular spot for families, featuring play areas for children. Its charming location also makes it an ideal break for cyclists and hikers exploring the surrounding nature, with some even making the trip from distant cities for the unique experience and well-informed service.
