Pluimerije

Pluimerije

De Pluimerije is a social food garden nestled in the beautiful Drenthe landscape, operating on three hectares of land enclosed by authentic forest walls. This initiative, guided by permaculture principles, focuses on natural gardening without pesticides or heavy machinery, promoting biodiversity and healthy soil. It serves as a place for connection with nature and with fellow human beings, offering a space for peace, reflection, and healthy, sustainably grown food.

Visitors can engage with the farm by participating in its Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. From spring until autumn (typically mid-May to mid-November), members can self-pick a variety of fresh, seasonal produce directly from the fields. The harvest generally includes an average of six different vegetables per week, with herbs available for free.

The diverse range of produce available for self-picking encompasses various types of lettuce, kohlrabi, Swiss chard, butterhead lettuce, broad beans, fennel, snow peas, napa cabbage, cavolo nero (black cabbage), summer purslane, New Zealand spinach, beet greens, turnip greens, spinach, spring turnips, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli leaves, and radishes. An assortment of herbs, such as dill, is also cultivated. While potatoes and small fruits like strawberries are grown on site, these are typically offered for sale separately rather than as part of the weekly self-picking subscription. Rhubarb is also grown, as suggested by available recipes.

Beyond self-picking, De Pluimerije functions as a vibrant community hub. It welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds to assist with garden tasks, animal care, or activities. The farm is also an educational resource for schools, offering insights into food origins, and provides an inspiring setting for corporate meetings or workshops. Recognizing the importance of healthy food for everyone, De Pluimerije also offers self-picking subscriptions for those with limited means and donates produce to local food banks and initiatives. Guided tours are regularly offered for those interested in learning more about the garden’s philosophy and operations.
