Pluktuin Schipluiden is a self-picking farm located on the outskirts of Schipluiden, Netherlands. It aims to be a haven for both people and animals, featuring fruit bushes, fruit trees, beds of flowers, herbs, and vegetables. They utilize a compost system, worm hotel, and bokashi pit. The farm also has beehives, a water storage system, and a barefoot path.
They host open days, green lessons for children, workshops, and lectures on topics like soil health and gardening.
In spring 2024, tulips and vegetable soup ingredients could be picked on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00. As of May 6, 2024, the tulips were finished, and they were awaiting the vegetables and other flowers to be ready for picking. Visitors were still welcome to visit on Saturday mornings.
In October 2024, the farm installed an off-grid electrical system thanks to donated solar panels. The solar panels convert sunlight into electricity which is then stored in truck batteries and converted to power a water pump and sprinklers. The farm received almost 400 euros from the Rabo ClubSupport campaign to improve the garden and organize events. Volunteers participated in a study day to learn about ecological cultivation. The farm participated in the Rabobank clubsupport campaign, seeking votes to fund activities for children and others. The farm hosted a stand in Midden-Delfland Dag. Students from a local school learned about mint plants and bees. The farm collected empty bottles to raise money for lesson materials and a water system. They encourage visitors to donate in order to help them improve.
The farm is run by volunteers who meet every Saturday morning. New volunteers are welcome.
