Roks Fruitteler L P

Roks Fruitteler L P

Located on the edge of the village Fijnaart, within the Oude Appelaar polder, lies a fruit farm and regional shop operated by the Roks family. The family has been cultivating fruit since 1964, expanding its orchards over the years, and opened its regional shop in 1975, initially selling only their own produce. Since 2010, the assortment has significantly grown to include vegetables, other fruits, and various regional specialties.

The farm cultivates a wide variety of fruits using environmentally conscious methods and is Global-GAP certified. Visitors have the opportunity to self-pick apples during special apple picking days, which are typically organized in early September.

In addition to fresh produce, the regional shop offers a broad selection of products from their own orchards and from other local entrepreneurs and farmers. Available fruits include nine varieties of apples (such as Delcorf, Wellant, Santana, Elstar, Goudreinette, Jonagold, and Pinova), three varieties of pears (Triomphe de Vienne, Conference, and Doyenne du Comice), three varieties of plums (Opal, Jubileum, and Reine Victoria), and multiple cherry varieties, including Kordia.

The shop also features artisanal regional products like pure plum jam made from their own Opal plums, apple sauce crafted from Goudreinette and Elstar apples, and various apple juices. Other offerings include farm cheese from local dairies, seasonal fruits, and wild berries. On New Year’s Eve, the shop bakes traditional apple fritters. The farm also provides various fruit boxes, gift baskets, and regional packages, which can be delivered or picked up.

The regional shop welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 16:00.

What visitors say

This self-picking farm and its associated shop consistently offer a delightful experience for visitors. Patrons frequently commend the exceptional quality of the fresh, healthy produce, which includes a wide variety of delicious fruits and vegetables such as cherries, plums, apples, and pears, many grown directly on the farm. The selection has expanded over time to encompass an impressive array of regional and homemade products, ranging from juices and jams to artisanal cheese and meat, making it a comprehensive farm shop.

The establishment is highly praised for its hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable staff, contributing to a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. It’s often described as a cozy and well-maintained space that provides a charming stop for a bike ride, and even offers educational tours for schools. Beyond the produce, the shop excels in providing unique gift options, including custom fruit and gift baskets, and some visitors particularly enjoy the delicious pancakes and fresh cakes available, hinting at an on-site cafe.

While a minor point was raised about the absence of fresh herbs and some items being perceived as slightly expensive, the overwhelming sentiment is that the products offer excellent value for their superior freshness and quality. Many visitors make a special trip to this “top farm shop,” finding it a highly recommended destination for anyone looking to enjoy local produce and a warm, inviting farm experience.
