RozemArrie is an organic strawberry farm and tea garden located in the small hamlet of Arriën, near Ommen. The farm has been cultivating strawberries since 2007, focusing on natural growing methods and flavor over high production volume. The berries are grown directly in the ground, unsprayed, and sold fresh from a stand at the farm. Several different strawberry varieties are grown, including both June-bearing and ever-bearing types. The exact picking season runs from June through August.
On-site, a small tearoom offers homemade treats, soft serve ice cream, and a selection of specialty loose-leaf teas. During the strawberry season, guests can enjoy high tea packages, a picknick wheelbarrow filled with treats and farm strawberries, and a walking arrangement that combines a walk through the historic Arriën landscape with a tea service. A separate rest point called the Bakhuisje is open with coffee, tea, and snacks during the pre- and post-season as well.
Payment options include debit cards, contactless mobile payments, and credit cards. The tearoom offers dine-in service, and the entrance is wheelchair accessible.
Open hours (during season, June through August):
- Monday: 09:00–09:01 (strawberry sales only this day)
- Tuesday through Saturday: 10:30–17:00 (tearoom open), strawberry sales Monday through Saturday
- Sunday: Closed
The tearoom and farm are closed outside the main season, though the rest point remains open on weekdays during the pre- and post-season.
What visitors say
This charming self-picking farm and tea garden, affectionately known as ‘RozemArrie’ by some, is a popular destination widely praised for its delicious, fresh, and often unsprayed strawberries. Visitors enjoy the opportunity to pick their own fruit, typically available from June to September. The farm’s culinary offerings prominently feature these berries, with highlights including delectable strawberry tarts, pancakes, and highly acclaimed farm-style soft-serve ice cream, often served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Beyond the signature fruit, the tea garden provides a selection of quality coffees, a diverse range of teas, and other homemade pastries and simple lunch options like toasted sandwiches.
The atmosphere is consistently described as cozy, rustic, and welcoming, offering an “oasis of peace” with pleasant indoor and outdoor seating, often under the shade of apple trees. It’s particularly well-suited for families, as children can enjoy ample play opportunities with go-karts, scooters, trampolines, and the chance to see calves. Many find it an ideal resting point during cycling or walking tours through the picturesque Vechtdal region. The staff are generally commended for their friendliness, kindness, and hospitality, contributing to memorable experiences for casual visits, family gatherings, birthdays, high teas, and even unique “wheelbarrow picnics.” Farm tours are also available, providing insight into the strawberry cultivation process.
While the farm receives overwhelmingly positive feedback, prospective visitors should be aware of a few considerations. During peak times, the venue can become extremely busy, occasionally leading to chaotic service and extended waiting times for orders. The owners acknowledge this challenge, clarifying their identity as a working farm with a small catering facility rather than a traditional restaurant. Furthermore, one isolated but notable concern was raised regarding the sale of expired self-service items in a separate “Bakhuisje,” which the owners explain as a non-profit addition where they consider the items still consumable. It is advisable to check the farm’s website for current opening hours and specific strawberry availability, as off-season operations are limited. While one review mentioned the experience could be perceived as expensive, another highlighted specific family arrangements as affordable.
