Tuin Moes is a self-picking farm and garden situated in Oosterwold, a green self-build area located east of Almere. It operates on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model, promoting sustainable practices and direct engagement with food production.
Visitors can become members to harvest their own seasonal produce and flowers. The vegetable garden allows members, typically paying €350 per year for a share, to pick their own vegetables from early May through December, seven days a week during daylight hours. The wide array of vegetables available for self-picking includes broad beans, snow peas, sugarsnaps, various types of beans, different kinds of lettuce, spinach, beets, red cabbage, kale, collard greens, broccoli, bok choy, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, chili peppers, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, carrots, parsnips, fennel, sweet corn, onions, leek, garlic, and a variety of herbs. Occasionally, less common vegetables like perennial kale or salsify are also offered. All produce is cultivated naturally, without pesticides, artificial fertilizers, or genetically modified seeds, prioritizing manual labor and ecological balance.
The farm also features a flower garden where members can pick a weekly bouquet of sustainably grown flowers. A flower share costs €125 per year, providing fresh blooms from mid-June to mid-October. These flowers are grown from organic seeds, without pesticides, and are warmed only by the sun.
In addition to self-picking, Tuin Moes provides services such as renting sheep for natural grazing and land fertilization, and offering expertise in garden design and implementation, which includes groundwork, milling, planting, and personalized vegetable garden advice.
Tuin Moes was established in 2020 by Akke, a biodynamic gardener, and Floris, who specializes in forest and nature management. The farm also welcomes volunteers and offers internships.
