Tuinderij Klein Alma is a self-picking farm in Bedum, run by Aukje Stoffelsma, her husband Stefan, volunteers, trainees, and picking participants. Aukje Stoffelsma started the farm in 2019 after graduating from Warmonderhof, a school for biodynamic agriculture.

The farm operates on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) principle, where customers buy “harvest shares” for the season, allowing them to harvest their own produce weekly. This supports healthy agriculture and the local economy.

The harvest season lasts about 32 weeks, with an average of 5-6 types of vegetables available per week. Examples of produce available at different times include:

  • Week 27: Chinese cabbage, oak leaf lettuce, leeks, broad beans or kapucijners, red beet, celery, fennel
  • Week 38: Green beans, tomatoes, savoy cabbage or pointed cabbage, green chicory, lettuce, zucchini, potatoes
  • Week 50: Kale, lamb’s lettuce, broccoli or sauerkraut, carrots, parsnip or pumpkin

Customers receive a weekly harvest report indicating what’s available for picking. Those living nearby can harvest in multiple visits for optimal freshness. Flowers and herbs are also usually available for picking.

Harvest participants can pick on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Coffee is available on Saturday mornings. All inputs (seeds, seedlings, compost, etc.) are of organic origin, although the farm itself is not Skal certified. The farm focuses on maintaining a healthy balance both above and below ground.

The farm also offers pre-made vegetable boxes available for pick-up at the farm store on Fridays and Saturdays.

The farm encourages those interested to follow them on Facebook and to contact them with questions. They also offer open garden every Saturday morning from April to September.
