Sloterland, located near Amsterdam, offers individuals the opportunity to rent plots of land to grow their own vegetables and flowers. Managed by the “Vereniging Vrienden van Sloterland”, the farm is one of the oldest agricultural lands in the Netherlands. Sloterland practices, as much as possible, biological-dynamic agriculture, with a focus on creating a self-sustaining ecosystem, where the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is avoided. Tuinabval (garden waste) is composted and used as a fertilizer.

Plots are rented for €2.00 per square meter, plus an annual contribution of €30 and a one-time registration fee of €25 for new members. A 50 square meter plot requires about 4 hours of work per week, less in the winter. Participants are expected to contribute to communal tasks and compost making a few times a year. The farm also offers the possibility to join the orchard group, in exchange for maintenance of the fruit trees, you can share in the apple and pear harvest.

The farm has a rich history, dating back to 1936 when Hans Wolterbeek established a biological-dynamic horticulture business called Sloterland.
