The Weidetuin is a bio-community and food park located at Hoofdweg-Zuid 64F in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, Netherlands. The project began in 2020 with the aim of cultivating local, healthy food while fostering a connection with nature. They aim to supply around 200 people with locally grown produce.
Visitors can become “harvest partners” and participate in the self-picking of approximately 50 different vegetables, herbs, and eventually, flowers. The farm grows around 50 types of vegetables, herbs and flowers. The farm also offers educational programs about food and nutrition.
The Weidetuin is open during the harvest season on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, and from May to September also on Wednesdays from 5 PM to 8 PM. The farm has plans for future developments including a food forest, apiary, chicken coop, tea room, and a shop selling organic products, as well as a playground for children.
What visitors say
This location is a charming and worthwhile place to obtain a diverse selection of organic vegetables on a weekly basis. The unique “harvest companion” system, where visitors harvest their own produce, adds to the appeal, making it a particularly enjoyable activity for families with young children. The enterprise is well-regarded, providing high-quality vegetables and staffed by friendly volunteers.
