Wereld Groente Tuintjes, located on the Osdorperweg in Amsterdam, offers garden plots in an unheated greenhouse (cold kas) to rent. Renting a plot gives you a longer growing season compared to outdoor gardening. During the warmer months, you can grow exotic vegetables such as sopropo, kousenband (yardlong beans), and aubergine until early November. As temperatures drop, the farm shifts to more local produce like cabbage, sprouts, and fresh herbs.
A 25m² plot costs €64 per month, and you can rent multiple plots. Yearly contracts are used.
The greenhouse is open from 8:00 to 22:00, and there’s water available near each plot. Compost is free for use. Toilets and a hand/produce washing area are available. Plot holders are expected to keep their plots tidy, use legal plants only, and limit plot boundaries to 1.5 meters high. Potatoes are not allowed due to the risk of potato disease, and chemical pesticides are prohibited in favor of natural pest control methods. Direct sales from the plots are not permitted.
The farm also aims to be a community (““Green Family””) based on honesty, openness, and respect.
Open days are held every Saturday from 13:00 to 16:00.
What visitors say
This is a wonderful place to start a small vegetable garden, and a great experience for children. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, thanks to Christel, who manages the operation. Everything is growing well and the reviewer is looking forward to future gardening days. The produce is all-natural, and it’s an amazing place to grow your own food inside a greenhouse in Amsterdam.
