Wij Telen Groente is a biological city farming operation in Haarlem, with two locations: the Kas (Greenhouse) in the Haarlemmer Kweektuin and the Land (Field) near the Ramplaankwartier and Leidsebuurt. The farm operates according to the principles of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), where members purchase a yearly share and come to harvest weekly. The operation is SKAL-certified organic, uses no chemical pesticides, avoids heavy machinery and plowing, and aims to be CO2 neutral by having members transport their own harvest. A flower picking garden is also available on site.
Visitors can self-pick fresh vegetables, herbs, and soft fruit. The types and variety of produce change weekly and seasonally, but can include crops such as lettuce, kohlrabi, and radishes. The Kas season typically runs from approximately March to November, while the Land season runs from approximately May/June to November. Members typically harvest about four to five different vegetables per week, with more variety in summer and early fall.
The farm has two separate harvesting schedules:
The Kas (Greenhouse) Pick-up hours during the season (roughly March to November): Wednesday 13:00-15:00, Thursday 17:00-19:00, Friday 15:00-17:00, Sunday 10:00-13:00. The cost for an annual share at the Kas is from €380.
The Land (Field) Pick-up hours during the season (roughly May to November): Wednesday 13:00-17:00, Thursday 19:00-21:00 (June through September only), Friday 13:00-17:00, Saturday 10:00-13:00. The cost for an annual share at the Land is from €325.
Additional activities include guided gardening workshops on topics such as fermenting, preserving, and herb cultivation. Team outings are available from June to October (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays) and include a farm tour, harvesting, and preparing lunch from the freshly picked ingredients. The Kas also serves as a qualified care farm, offering daytime activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 16:00, with transportation available for those who cannot travel independently. A small organic farm shop (BioWinkeltje) on site sells products such as organic potting soil and honey.
The Kas (Kleverlaan 9, Haarlem) is generally open for harvesting on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays during the season. The Land (Pieter Wantelaan) is open for harvesting on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during the season. The Kas has a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking. Review information indicates the farm maintains a high average rating.
