We list around ten pick-your-own farms in Drenthe. Most are self-harvest vegetable gardens (carrots, lettuce, cabbage, pumpkin, that sort of thing) plus a handful of flower gardens. There is less fruit than you might expect: blueberries in a couple of places and apples here and there. You can dig your own potatoes too, but not at many farms.

U-pick farms in Drenthe: three worth a closer look

A warning first. A good share of the Drenthe gardens work with members or a subscription, so you can’t just turn up for an afternoon. Below is what we know about each one.

Oogstland in Zuidlaren has the longest vegetable list in the province, more than thirty kinds. They are not all there at once though: in any given week you can harvest 4 to 10 kinds. It is a garden for members, who can come every day from mid-May to mid-December, sunrise to sunset. Whether you can come once without joining, we don’t know.

Tuinderij Mooi Weerdinge is on the edge of Emmen, opposite Emmerhoutstraat 16. A self-harvest garden with a food forest edge, where they also grow things like Szechuan pepper. As far as we know the garden is only open on Wednesday and Thursday (9:30 to 17:00). On Saturdays in season there is a vegetable stall from 10:30 to 14:30.

Fruitkwekerij Berkenbroek in Wittelte is a place where you can simply come and pick, mainly blueberries, from July through September. They grow strawberries and raspberries as well. The farm has been going since 2014 and has a second site in Darp, so check which address you need. Card payment is possible.

One more thing about ratings: all three farms above have a 5 on Google, but based on four to seven reviews. So it doesn’t tell you much.
